BIO
Christophe Mondot (who performs under stage-name, MINO) is a jazz-trained pianist who loves technology. His passion for the piano began at a very young age. Since he did not have a piano, he would rotate around his neighborhood, always looking for somewhere to practice. As his pre-teen years hit, he had already begun composing and arranging music for his own bands, inspired by artists such as the Doors, Pink Floyd, and the Beatles.
He had always played by ear, so by the time he started official music lessons, he told his current classical teacher that he wanted to improvise. The teacher at the time recommended he find a jazz instructor. As his repertoire expanded, he began also finding inspiration from artists such as Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind & Fire, Jill Scott and Al Green.
He went on to some of the most prestigious jazz schools in Paris, he continued to compose adding inspiration from contemporary pianists such as Brad Meldhau, Keith Jarrett and Michel Petrucciani. During this time, he was also getting his masters in electronic engineering to make electronics for sound production.
He composed, recorded and produced his own music for many years with a variety of groups. They ranged in styles from Jazz, to Latin to HipHop to Soul. At this time, he also handcrafted his own line of electronic analog effect pedals that he used to have a unique and original sound. Whether it be hip hop beats or a film score, Mino’s music reflects a good balance of both musicianship and technological skills.
During this time he was changing the lives of his students, in both group lessons at Musique Pour Tous and in private lessons all over Paris. His teaching style has been known to inspire both young students who just want to have fun and jaded students who have been turned off by too much emphasis on technique and memorization. See here for two recent adult students in New York who rediscovered their love of this instrument. He saw his students in France grow from ages as young as six years old into motivated college students still urging him to keep the relationship alive after his re-location to New York where he began offering lessons via Skype.
Christophe came to Brooklyn in 2012, and continued to produce Jazz, Hip Hop, Pop and Scores for Theatre/Film. But he wanted to do a new solo project where he would produce electronic dance music and do visuals to accompany the music. So, he learned the necessary animation softwares and designed his own original 3D Projection Mapping show for his new EDM album. Within one year of creating the show, he had performed it over 40 times in Brooklyn and Manhattan.
Today, he continues to perform in New York and is composing and producing new music daily and incorporates his knowledge into online tutorials for clients such as Puremix at Flux Studios where he is a lead designer, video editor and motion graphics designer.
